Fun Day part 1
26th August The forecast was rain but undeterred bowlers and non bowlers turned up to play Some had come prepared for the weather others wished they had as by mid morning the promised rain came and the green became waterlogged . A decision was made to have lunch and see if things improved. No Chance it rained even harder. We drew the raffle and went home to dry out It should be noted that at this point the non bowlers wanted to resume play the following week and so on Sunday 2nd September we resumed play |
The DDLBA Charity day on Sunday 12th August turned out be very successful for Rosie,
As if winning the food hamper and a bottle of Baileys was not enough , she went on to win the Jubilee Cup beating Rachel E from Shireoaks in the semi final and June H from Wales in the final.
Thanks goes to Pat for putting Rosie forward to represent Anston and to the supporters from Anston
Well done Rosie, the knee replacements work

Sunday 22nd July saw 21 members arrive for the draw of the mixed doubles This had been postponed from the previous week in anticipation of an England Team getting through in a certain World Cup.
A preliminary round was played which was highly contested before going on to round one.
Again no game was a walk over.
The semi final saw Chris and Shelly against Derick and Mickey The ladies lost to 11
The other semi final saw Peter and Carol lose 14 -21 to Ian and Kevan
In soaring temperature and having played 3 games to the others 2 Derick and Mickey lost to Ian and Kevan 6-21
Some members who shall be nameless (Howard and Rick )nodded off in the heat but fortunately did not snore and woke in time to see the final result
Kevan is making a habit of winning but it is nice to see new members name on the trophy
Thanks go to Mickey for the Bacon Butties and to Sue and Pat for the organisation.

Funday Sunday 27th August 2017
The day started with bowlers and non bowlers being paired to play doubles upto 11.
The games should have lasted approx. an hour but with the games being so closely contested they ran over time.
A lunch break for Burgers, Butties and other refreshments saw the quarter finals played to 15 up.
There was some excellent bowling by non bowlers in many cases bowling the winning woods at an end.
As the day progressed, in glorious sunshine, the final saw Paul, non Bowler (although you would have thought you watching a bowler) and Brian W take on Liz
non bowler (who had obvious been watching how her father had played bowls over the years) and Tony W
The final result was 12-21 in favour of Liz and Tony W. Congratulations to the winners and runners up
Thanks to all who came, played and made this day so pleasurable .
There were nearly 40 participants and many more supporters and spectators.
Comments like "it really felt like a community event" and "Anston should be proud of this asset" were voiced by non bowlers, the majority of whom live in the village.
The event raised over £270. Hopefully Anston Bowling Club will run this again in 2018

Ladies Singles 7th August
We have a different name on The Ladies Singles Cup.
After a slow start with a prelim that was worthy of a final Carol E beating Diane G 21 -19 ,the competition got underway in glorious sunshine and a green that felt as though you were playing on glass.
The semi finals were between Sue and Gail with "storming" Norma playing Mandy.
After a break for a much deserved cold buffet lunch which was much appreciated ,the final saw Mandy take on Gail.
These two ladies were very evenly matched. Gail was well ahead but Mandy never gives up and with the score 20 across Gail triumphed.
Gail has previously won the Cup in 1990 and again in 1994 BC (Before children )
Is it a coincidence that last year Sue M won with borrowed woods and a hang over and Gail without a hang over but with borrowed woods won this year?
Thanks to all who particpated and the men who supported, measured and scored.
